The Jockey Club was formed on February 9, 1894, in New York City by
several prominent Thoroughbred owners and breeders determined to bring a
sense of order and authority to an increasingly chaotic sport.
The Jockey Club, then and now, is dedicated to the improvement of
Thoroughbred breeding and racing and it maintains a leadership role in
numerous industry initiatives, including the National Thoroughbred Racing
Association (NTRA).
The Jockey Club maintains offices in Lexington, Kentucky, and New
York City.
Through the years, several subsidiary companies, charitable
foundations and a general partnership have been created for the betterment of
the industry.
